Bellringing Festival at Walkerville
A long-weekend festival of bellringing will be held in Adelaide from Friday June 7 to Monday June 10, the Monarch’s Birthday Long Weekend. This is the festival of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Bellringers (ANZAB). Bellringers will come to Adelaide from interstate as well as from overseas to participate and compete in a bellringing competition.
The bells of St Andrew’s Walkerville, St. Cuthbert’s Prospect, St Peter’s Cathedral North Adelaide, and St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral near Victoria Square will be rung during the weekend.
The ringing programme is quite extensive, and the bells will be rung each day of the long weekend.
The competition will be held at St Andrew’s church and is for the award of the Bob Ferris Shield and will be awarded to the bellringing team that produces the most accurate striking technique.
The bells at St Andrew’s Church were refurbished and repaired two years ago in England and the bellringing chamber has been refurbished, renovated, and carpeted. St Andrew’s will act as a base for the bellringing teams throughout the festival.
It is a great achievement for Adelaide to be awarded this festival and competition.
